"The rough seas are behind us now that we have found our beacon in the storm. Thank-you for all you do, thank-you for all you are, and thank-you most of all for all you have helped our daughter become. Words are not enough...".

Nine Signs Your Child Might Have a Reading Problem

Are you worried that your child might have a reading problem or a learning difficulty? Don’t worry - you’re not alone! The good news is 80% of children don’t have an actual learning difficulty – they have a reading problem – one that is correctable in only 20 sessions.

Here are nine signs that your child (or you) might have a reading problem:

• Avoids reading. Does your child go to great lengths to avoid reading, offering excuses? Crying? Begging for more time or promising to do it later?
• Difficulty with speech and/or hearing at a younger age – their speaking skills are slower or less developed than their friend’s skills for instance.
• Guesses at words. Guessing is not a learning strategy.
• Substitutes words. Does your child leave out words, or substitute one word for another when they read?
• Adds words to sentences and paragraphs that are not in a reading passage.
• Has difficulty with writing and/or spelling.
• Has difficulty putting thoughts on paper.
• Has difficulty with attention and/or concentration. Their teacher may label them as either “very shy” or disruptive because they are always talking – usually asking someone around them what to do because they can’t read the directions on the board.
• Difficulty with math or number skills. Reading involves memory skills. Students who have short-term memory skills may have problems in math as well as reading.

Do any of these sound familiar? If they do, there’s a good chance we can help. For a more detailed explanation of these signs, download our free report.

Three Steps to Improving Your Child's Life

At Beacon Literacy, we are here to help you find all the answers that you are looking for.  The steps are as easy as 123... or ABC...

One, in order for you to know if your child is experiencing difficulty reading, we offer a “no fee” assessment that will determine the level of proficiency for your child’s reading level with no obligation to use our services.

Two, after we assess your child we explain what we’ve learned, what it means and what we believe we can do to help.  We take as much time as we need with you and your child.

Three, we explain our program, our costs and what you can expect when you sign up. We guarantee your child will improve at least one entire grade level in 20 sessions. Some children improve more – sometimes 2 or even 3 levels. But we guarantee at least one.

You are under no obligation to sign up after your free assessment. We want you to want this program. That’s it. You can come in, have your child assessed and learn where they are in terms of their reading levels, and find out what it takes to improve it. We will even provide you with free tips on how you can help your child at home. You have nothing to lose and your child’s future to gain. Why wouldn’t you do it? We are Not the Average Reading Tutor

There are a lot of reading programs out there. We’re not like any of them. We guarantee permanent results in less time. We use a different approach that utilizes the child’s own voice and guarantees results in 20-sessions using a patented process that is not like anything else on the market today.

Beacon Literacy is on a mission and that mission is to ensure that everyone learns to read. We guarantee your child’s success. If you’ve tried everything including other literacy programs and still haven’t seen the results that you want, it is time to bring your child to Beacon Literacy.  They are THE reading tutor in Calgary.

You Know Your Child Better Than Anyone

"You made a huge difference in how we were able to help our son and know that we were on the right track.  Without your help I am not sure where we would be and how far away that light at the end of the tunnel would be from us still. "

No one knows their child better than their parent. We find that many parents notice something is "wrong" with their child but they aren’t quite sure what it is. They may have their child’s hearing and eyes checked. Or they may have them tested for a learning disability and even send them to a therapist to see if they have mental or emotional issues. Throughout all this, they may even feel guilty like there’s something they should have done earlier, all along not knowing whether they have done something "wrong" to begin with. Those reactions are not unusual. That’s where we come in.

We're the Reading Tutors With A Program That Works

We’re the experts on reading difficulties. It’s what we do all day, every day. We’ve seen a lot of children and adults since we’ve been in business and we know what is possible – and the news is – that it is a lot!

Fundamental reading difficulties are never outgrown. Reading is the cornerstone of all subject areas and success at all levels of education is based on the solid ability to read. The time to act on a suspected reading difficulty is the moment you think there is one. Remember, it is never too late to learn if you have the right support and tools.

When you bring your child to Beacon Literacy, we do the preliminary testing with both the child and the parent(s) present. Once it has been determined that there is a difficulty with reading, a testing expert works with the child for a more in-depth assessment. Meanwhile, Lani Donaldson, the owner, meets with the parent(s) because we want to hear what you have to say about your child and the fears that you have dealing with this situation.

At Beacon, we believe that the parent is the expert on their child; we’re the experts on the process to learn to read. And that is why you are involved with the process every step of the way. When a child is enrolled in the Beacon Literacy program, that child is given 20 weeks of one-on-one attention.
